The Brief

Austin-based advertising agency McGarrah Jessee puts people first — as they say, they “speak people.” When they came to Funkhaus for a new website to relaunch their brand, they wanted that tenant of their work at the forefront of their digital presence. After an in-person kickoff at McJ HQ, the Funkhaus team got to work transforming their site into a brand new, memorable, message-driven iteration.

Ushering in a new era with a fresh online presence

With an edgy and updated brand that they were excited to implement, McJ tapped us to design a new digital home that could keep up. Colorful and considered were key words for us throughout the design process — we drew inspiration from the vivid, rich colors and tactile elements found in a curated vinyl record collection, while meticulously attending to each detail of the site’s design, from punchy typography to sleek transitions. 

McJ stands apart from competitors through their affinity for the offbeat, their authenticity, and by always putting people first through their commitment to inclusivity and equity. To make sure these strengths were apparent, we paid special attention to how we visually presented all messaging across the site, designing with an emphasis on how best to present their copy for maximum impact.

Platforming a diverse portfolio to encourage growth

As a regional ad agency, McJ has built a loyal clientele that includes big names like Whataburger and Fender, and is ready to continue expanding into even larger markets. With case studies across advertising work, print work, activations, and much more, the new site offers functionality that shows off the breadth of McJ’s work through design as versatile as their capabilities, effectively positioning them for national campaigns.

Harnessing personality and creating visual interest with Lottie files

With such a personable brand, it was essential that we created a visual experience with charm to match — in this case, Lottie files fit the bill. From the opening homepage animation to the collage-like elements of the eccentric Mystery Box, we used this tool to create eye-catching motion throughout the site and create visual interest for users.
