Designing an online destination for a growing fitness movement

The Ness Designing an online destination for a growing fitness movement

The Brief

As a growing exercise practice centered around trampoline fitness, The Ness was facing several unique challenges when they approached Funkhaus. With the world having moved fully online in 2020, it was important that they have a platform to bring their classes into the digital world. They also needed a way to demystify the benefits of trampoline fitness to give it broad appeal.

Creative Direction

Making a new fitness practice approachable through storytelling

The Ness story begins with storytelling - around their community, the vibe of the space, and their approach to strength and empowerment. So that’s where we began, working hand in hand with them to art direct content that would tell their story and shape the ultimate direction for the site. We collaborated with their in house creative to produce imagery with a cinematic quality to establish a high-end aesthetic and clarify each class offering.

Website Design

Smart frameworking for a unified digital platform

We then integrated multiple technical frameworks to make it possible to book classes, participate in virtual classes, and to transact in commerce all in one place. The result is an aesthetics-forward, yet highly functional site that’s accessible to both at-home and in-studio users.

Integrated, Headless Ecommerce

Using Shopify as a headless commerce engine, the shop section of the website is seamlessly integrated into the design language of the narrative-first site. The cart and shop lean on Shopify for best practices in conversion, while the product detail pages drive engagement through the stylized imagery and copy.

"After speaking with Funkhaus I knew they were the right fit for us because they didn't immediately try to box us into an existing identity within our industry. They understood the typical functionality needed in our line of work, but didn't let it stop the creative process. We did not have to sacrifice any part of our brand for practicality which resulted in a site that is not only beautiful and emotional but direct and easy to use."
